It's not a shopping app. It's the opposite.

Yes, and generously so. The Free tier gives you a 100-item wardrobe — and bags, accessories and beauty don't count toward that limit. You also get unlimited outfit ideas, the Remix Studio, the capsule builder, weather-aware suggestions, colour analysis, 30 saved outfits, and the sustainability decision tree.

If you need more room, a one-time £3.99 add-on brings you to 250 items — no subscription, no renewal, yours forever. Premium (£7.99/month, with a 30-day free trial) unlocks an unlimited wardrobe and the full feature set.

Free gives you 100 wardrobe items and far more than a trial — unlimited outfit ideas, the Remix Studio, the capsule builder, weather-aware suggestions, colour analysis, 30 saved outfits, and the sustainability decision tree. Bags, accessories and beauty items don't count toward the limit. A one-time £3.99 add-on takes you to 250 items if you need the room.

Premium (£7.99/month, or £79.99/year) removes the wardrobe limit entirely and adds the complete colour palette, the 25- and 33-piece capsules, Soul Style, full analytics and Greatest Hits, the Evening Check-in, and unlimited Shop Smart. It starts with a 30-day free trial.

Yes — 30 days. After that it renews at £7.99 a month or £79.99 a year unless you cancel.

Yes, at any time. Go to your device settings (not the Closet Remix app) and manage your subscriptions through Apple or Google. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. Your wardrobe data stays on your device — you simply move to the Free tier.

All your data is stored on your device only. We do not upload your wardrobe, photos, or personal information to any server. If you delete the app, your data goes with it. The only exception is if you opt into anonymous impact data sharing — see the next question.

No. Closet Remix works with no account and no sign-up — your wardrobe lives on your device.

No. Background removal happens on your device. Photograph a garment against any background and the app cuts it out cleanly so your wardrobe reads like a catalogue — but the image is processed on the phone itself and is never uploaded to us or to any third party. Most wardrobe apps send your photos to a server for this; we don't, which also means the cut-outs work without a connection.

If you choose to turn this on in Settings, the app prepares a monthly snapshot of anonymised wardrobe statistics — total rewears, CO₂ saved, that sort of thing. No personal details, no photos, no location. This data helps us measure the collective impact of the Closet Remix community. It's off by default, and you can change it at any time.

Go to Profile and tap Delete everything on this device at the bottom of the screen. You'll be asked to confirm twice to prevent accidental deletion. This permanently removes your wardrobe, outfits, capsules, calendar, preferences, and any impact snapshots from your device. It cannot be undone. Alternatively, deleting the app removes all data automatically.

Yes — properly. Profile → Export Data creates a single self-contained file that includes your entire wardrobe: every item, every photo, all your outfits, wear history, and style settings. It restores fully on any device — photos included.

Export regularly and keep the file in iCloud Drive or Google Drive. On iPhone, your data is also automatically included in your iCloud backup as a second safety net.

Yes. Go to Profile → Data → Export wardrobe, save the file to iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox or your Files app, then choose Import on the new phone. It can run to several hundred megabytes, so don’t email it. On Android this is the only way, because Android’s own app backup stops at 25 MB. Switching between iPhone and Android? Yes. Mark a piece as lent, note who has it, and set a return date.

It is recorded, including what you made on it if you sold it, and your wardrobe and outfits update to match. The piece keeps its history.

We use published research from WRAP, the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, Carbonfact, and Levi Strauss to estimate the environmental cost of producing each garment by fabric type. Every time you rewear an item instead of buying new, that saving is tracked. These are estimates based on the best available data — not certified assessments.

Every brand is individually researched using third-party ratings from Good On You, B Corp, and Ethical Consumer, alongside our own assessment criteria. We look at materials, supply-chain transparency, labour practices, and environmental impact. Brands that rely on virgin synthetics, lack transparency, or score poorly on independent ratings are not included. The directory is reviewed and updated regularly.

Seven rule-based styling systems — built on the FFIT body-shape framework, the Sci/ART colour method, and peer-reviewed sustainability data — work in the background every time you ask for an outfit. No generic AI. Every rule is grounded in real fashion knowledge, which is why the suggestions get noticeably better as your wardrobe fills out.

The Capsule Builder selects a small group of versatile pieces from your wardrobe that work together in multiple combinations. You choose a duration, and the app can automatically fill your calendar with outfits from the capsule — or let you pick which outfit goes on which day. It's a great way to simplify your week. You'll find it across the Wardrobe and Plan tabs.

Open any item in your wardrobe and you'll see its cost-per-wear sitting on the listing — it updates automatically every time you log a wear. For the bigger picture, head to Your Sustainable Impact: the Personal and Big Picture tabs roll your numbers up so you can see which pieces are carrying their weight and where the wardrobe sits against industry benchmarks.

To keep first-run gentle, we don't ask for measurements during onboarding. Once you're set up, your home screen carries a soft prompt to add a bit more about you — that's where the Body Shape Audit lives. You'll also find it any time under Profile → About me → Edit style profile.

The four numbers stay on your device. The FFIT classification runs locally, not on a server. Re-run it whenever you like — bodies change; the engine should change with them.

Closet Remix is built by Estelle Pearce — sixteen years in fashion as a pattern cutter and designer, working with brands including Next, Monsoon, Jaeger and David Nieper, alongside her work as a lecturer.

It grew directly from her 2021–22 MA Digital Fashion research at Leeds Arts University, which proposed both a circular business model and community workshops. The workshops became Fashion Fusion CIC, a Community Interest Company in Doncaster; the model's keep-it-in-circulation step became the app, in active development since early 2026.
