How do I know what colour season I am?

You read three things about yourself: your natural hair, your eyes, and your skin — then two things about how they sit together, your overall depth and your contrast. The quiz above walks you through all five in order, and gives you your most likely season at the end. It takes about two minutes, and you don't need a mirror in good light, though it helps.

If you've gone grey, the quiz reads your eyes and skin instead of your hair — greying changes your hair but not your undertone, so that route is the accurate one.

What is seasonal colour analysis?

Seasonal colour analysis — or color analysis, as it's often spelled — is the practice of grouping colours by the qualities they share: warm or cool, light or deep, soft or clear. Your own colouring has those same qualities, and when the two match, things look right without you having to work at it. That's the whole idea. It isn't a rulebook, and nobody is forbidden from wearing anything.

The four seasonal families each split three ways, which is where the twelve seasons come from. A Summer and a Winter can both be cool; what separates them is depth and contrast.

What are the 12 colour seasons?

Twelve in total, three within each family:

• Spring — Light Spring, Warm Spring, Clear Spring
• Summer — Light Summer, Cool Summer, Soft Summer
• Autumn — Soft Autumn, Warm Autumn, Deep Autumn
• Winter — Cool Winter, Clear Winter, Deep Winter

Other systems use different names for some of these — True, Bright and Dark all appear elsewhere for seasons we call Warm, Clear and Deep. If you've been given a season before under another name, it will usually map onto one of the twelve above.
